ॐ ऐरावतादिदिग्दन्तिसंवृताय नमो नमः ॐ

oṃ airāvatādidigdantisaṃvṛtāya namo namaḥ oṃ
ॐ ऐरावतादिदिग्दन्तिसंवृताय नमो नमः ॐ

Word-by-Word Translation:

  • oṃ – The primordial sacred syllable.
  • airāvata (ऐरावत) – The celestial white elephant of Lord Indra.
  • ādi (आदि) – And others, beginning with.
  • dig-danti (दिग्-दन्ति) – Directional elephants; elephants that preside over and guard the eight cardinal directions (dikpālas).

  • āya (āya) – To the One who… (grammatical suffix denoting respect, the dative case).
  • namo namaḥ – Salutations again and again.

Full Translation:

“Salutations again and again to the One who is surrounded by Airāvata and the other directional elephants.”

Commentary:

This nāma emphasizes Śrī Ucchiṣṭa Gaṇapati’s cosmic sovereignty and the enormity of His strength, evoked through His connection to the celestial elephants of the directions.

🐘 Airāvata – The King of Celestial Elephants:

  • Airāvata is the majestic, white, many-tusked elephant of Lord Indra, king of the Devas.
  • He symbolizes royal power, divine authority, strength, and auspiciousness.

🕘 Dig-danti – Directional Elephants:

  • In Vedic and Puranic cosmology, there are eight celestial elephants, each associated with one of the eight cardinal directions. These include:
    1. Airāvata (East)
    2. Pundarīka (South-East)
    3. Vāmana (South)
    4. Kumuda (South-West)
    5. Anjana (West)
    6. Puṣpadanta (North-West)
    7. Sārvabhauma (North)
    8. Supratīka (North-East)
  • These elephants guard the directions and represent the stability of the cosmic order.

🔱 Saṃvṛta – Surrounded By:

  • To be surrounded by these divine elephants is to be recognized as a supreme ruler or center of divine authority.
  • Ucchiṣṭa Gaṇapati being “saṃvṛta” by them indicates that even the celestial guardians of directions serve and protect Him.

Tantric & Symbolic Insight:

  • This nāma reveals Gaṇapati’s status as a cosmic axis, with the entire manifest universe revolving around Him.
  • The elephants not only represent physical strength, but also the foundation of dharma, directionality, and spiritual fortitude.
  • In a Tantric lens, these dig-gajas also represent the stability of subtle energies (bindu, nāda, prāṇa) and the fortification of the sādhaka’s body as a mandala—with Gaṇapati at its core.

Summary:

Ucchiṣṭa Gaṇapati is here hailed as the center of celestial power, the master of directions, and one whose majesty draws even the most powerful beings to His service. The image evoked is not only majestic, but also protective, indicating that the sādhaka who surrenders to Him is guarded from all directions—both worldly and occult.
